I got a bunch of "W" Platinum Eagles from APMEX
 

I ordered 4 uncirculated platinum 1/4 ounce eagles from APMEX. Much to my surpise, they sent all 2008 "W" marked coins. There were less than 4000 of these made. To slab or not to slab? What would I expect to pay to have these put into plastic and graded? How would I do this? Which grading service is better or cheaper? Suggestions appreciated.

is it possible that the W mint mark is not a burnished type?

I'm not sure what you mean by burnished. I've enclosed a photo. The only production figures I can find are the same as the ones you posted. Total 2008-W Uncirculated 1/4 oz production is listed as 3894 coins. Seems very LOW to me. I'm very surprised that APMEX sent these to me as they were purchased on the "dates of our choice" list several months back. If the production is this low, do you think it would be worth it to get them graded by PCGS? They are in perfect condition.

"They are struck on specially burnished blanks and carry the "W" mint mark. The "Burnished Eagles" generally have lower mintages than their bullion counterparts."

Seems like the burnished coins are the Ws according to this <a href="http://mintnewsblog.blogspot.com/2008/05/2007-w-burnished-platinum-eagle-mintage.html">blog</a>

Just seems to be a different year than from the coins you got. If you really want to understand whats going on, you can give APMEX a call.

EDIT: Also, its possible that its not a big deal, and APMEX sees it just as bullion and nothing else.

I am not really familiar with the benefit of grading now vs later, unless you plan to resell soon... someone more knowledgeable should chime in here...
